Tara Perry signs with Wheeling University

Derry Area senior Tara Perry (seated, middle) recently signed a letter of intent to continue her athletic and academic career at Wheeling University. Perry, who was joined by cross-country coach Greg Rager, her mother Kathy Perry, father Tom Perry and track and field coach Mark Curcio, was a varsity letterwinner as a senior on the Derry Area girls’ tennis team, starring at second singles. Perry, a two-sport standout, set personal records for Derry Area during the winter indoor track and field season held at Edinboro University with a 5-2 in the high jump, a :10.19 in the 60 hurdles, a 33-2 in the triple jump and also a 15-7 1/2 in the long jump. She also competes in the 400 relay, triple jump, high jump and 100 hurdles during the outdoor season. Perry, who competed at first doubles on the tennis team as a junior, also excels in TGZ competitive cheer club and carried a 3.75 grade-point average with honors and an academic excellence award as a junior. She was a 4.0 student with distinguished honors and an academic excellence award as a freshman and sophomore.
