Slusarcyk signs to play hockey at RMU

Derry Area standout Serena Slusarcyk (center) is joined by her mother Jody and father Joe Slusarcyk, as she signs her letter of intent to play Division I college hockey at Robert Morris University. Slusarcyk, a senior with a 4.0 grade-point average, started playing ice hockey when she was 8 in the Greater Latrobe Developmental program. She has also played for the Allegheny Badgers, Derry Area and Pittsburgh Pens Elite, which is where she currently plays on the U-19 team. Slusarcyk played four straight years for the USA Hockey championship and her team qualified for a fifth consecutive season, but the event was canceled because of the pandemic. Slusarcyk also competes in track and field at Derry Area where she broke the school record in the 100 with a :12.3. She received multiple collegiate offers to run track-and-field in college, but turned them down because of her love for ice hockey. Slusarcyk is involved in business honor society and the Interact club at the high school and her college major is currently undecided.
