Mark Robert Rubino passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019, at Seasons Hospice in Naperville, Illinois, surrounded by his family.
He was the beloved son of Robert and Josephine Rubino of Latrobe, who preceded him in death. Mark was born April 1, 1959, in Rochester, Beaver County, but was raised and spent most of his life in Latrobe. He spent the last seven years in the Chicago area, working as an operations manager for Custom Alloys Inc., located in Belvidere, Illinois.
A 1978 graduate of Greensburg Central Catholic High School, Mark entered the U.S. Navy where he completed 137 dives and rescue missions, working as a search and rescue crewman on the USS Forrestal. As a petty officer first class, he served as the captain of his crew and was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal for heroic efforts. Mark was also an avid outdoorsman, running fly fishing expeditions in Idaho. He was a gifted and talented carpenter, and contributed selflessly to many community organizations throughout his lifetime.
He was a loving brother and uncle and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and co-workers. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Jeffrey and Christine (Rubino) Piekut of North Huntingdon Township, and their children. He also is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jeffrey and Jackie (Beck) Rubino of Naperville, and their children, who lovingly cared for him during his illness.
There will be a private burial at Unity Cemetery in Unity Township.
