State police at Kiski Valley reported that no one was injured in a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 5:41 p.m. Dec. 19 in Salem Township. According to police, a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by Deanne L. Branan, 20, of Indiana, and a 2012 Toyota RAV4, driven by a 17-year-old from Delmont, were driving north on Route 66 in Salem Township when the Toyota slowed down for upcoming traffic at the intersection with Brick Hill Road and Branan struck the Toyota from behind. Neither driver was hurt in the crash. Read more

State police at Kiski Valley cited E.A. Sewell Cunningham, 20, of Westbury, New York, following an one-vehicle crash at 6:30 a.m. Dec. 26 on Route 22 near Ravine Park Road in Derry Township. According to police, Sewell Cunningham was traveling west on Route 22 when he evidently fell asleep and crashed into the concrete barrier on the left side of the road. He was not injured in the crash. Read more

State police at Greensburg are investigating a two-vehicle crash that sent one of the drivers to the hospital at 2:18 p.m. Dec. 20 in Hempfield Township. According to police, a 2021 Jeep Wrangler, which was driven by Kimberly Martz Contino, 56, of Greensburg was traveling north on Arona Road when a 2010 Toyota RAV4, driven by Dharma M. Kear, 22, of Murrysville pulled out onto Arona Road from South Thompson Lane. Kear was not injured in the crash, but Martz Contino was taken by ambulance to Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital for treatment of a possible injury. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. Kear was cited by police for not stopping at a stop sign. Read more

State police at Kiski investigated an incident of bad checks that occurred at 8:52 a.m. Dec. 3 in Salem Township. According to the report, Devon Anderson, 31, of Jeannette wrote a bad check to Tresco Concrete Products, Inc. of Delmont in the amount of $1,029.28 and didn’t provide a valid payment to the company. State police at Indiana are investigating the theft of a firearm and a bank card from a truck trailer belonging to a 44-year-old Homer City man at 11 a.m. Nov. 29 in Buffington Township, Indiana County. According to the report, a Smith & Wesson 40-caliber black handgun with a 7-round magazine, valued at $500, and a blue S&T bank debit card were taken from a 2019 Toyocar van container trailer at the intersection of Barkley Church and Mardis roads. The investigation is continuing. Read more

State police at Greensburg report that a Latrobe man was not injured when the vehicle he was driving at 6:43 p.m. Nov. 8 struck a deer on Route 30 near Sand Hill Road in Unity Township. According to police, the 2016 Nissan Altima, driven by Paul B. Urban, 67, was traveling in the right lane when the deer crossed in front of him. Read more

State police are investigating a report filed by a 24-year-old Mount Union man of a 25-year-old Blairsville man who used a cell phone to take a photograph or video of him while they were using the toilets at a restroom on Nov. 10 inside of Sheetz in Burrell Township, Indiana County. Read more

State police at Greensburg report that a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox struck a deer at 7:12 a.m. Nov. 1 on Donohoe Road in Unity Township. According to police, Donald J. Berenbrok, 79, of Latrobe was driving west when a deer ran in front of him. His vehicle sustained significant damage, but Berenbrok was not injured. Read more

State police investigated the death of a 32-year-old female inmate at the Indiana County Jail, who was found deceased alone in her cell at 11 a.m. Oct. 28. Troopers don’t suspect foul play and the death was not found to be suspicious in nature. State police were assisted by the Indiana County Coroner’s Office and staff at the jail. The inmate was originally from Johnstown. Read more

State police at Greensburg announced a sobriety checkpoint will be conducted between Nov. 1 and 30 in an unannounced location in Westmoreland County in an effort to decrease deaths, injuries and property damage caused by impaired drivers and decrease the number of impaired drivers on the roadways. State police reported that no one was injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 11:28 a.m. Oct. 14 in Hempfield Township. Police said the accident occurred while both vehicles, a 2009 Honda Civic and a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox, were traveling east on Blair Street. Both vehicles sustained minor damage, but neither driver was hurt. Read more

State police at Greensburg are investigating multiple thefts from a rash of vehicle break-ins in Youngstown Borough at 6:15 p.m. Oct. 4. According to police, multiple items were taken, including a black Heckler & Koch VP 9mm pistol, valued at $700 and $385 in cash. State police are investigating multiple reports of fraudulent unemployment scams in the area. State police at Indiana report the identities of a 47-year-old female and a male (age unknown) both from Blairsville, a 78-year-old female from Kent and a 70-year-old Shelocta man, were used to file for unemployment benefits between Oct. 4 and 13. In addition, state police at Greensburg also received similar reports involving the identities of a 42-year-old Irwin man on Oct. 12. Read more

State police at Greensburg responded to two domestic incidents involving the same suspect on the same day in Hempfield Township. According to police, Kory Ross, 33, of Greensburg was arrested for an incident that took place at 9:15 a.m. Sept. 23 at a home on Dolphin Lane, and then police went back out at 10:31 a.m. for another report of a domestic incident at the same residence, during which Ross was taken into custody for violating a protection from abuse order. The original charges of harassment and simple assault were dismissed after the victim refused to cooperate at Ross’s hearing. Read more

State police at Greensburg charged Joshua Lucot, 25, of Mount Pleasant with possession and carrying of a firearm without a license, following a motorcycle crash at 1:23 p.m. Sept. 29 in Hempfield Township. According to police, troopers responded to a crash of a 2007 Kawasaki at the intersection of Trouttown and Stone Church roads and found Lucot in possession of a firearm, which he did not have a license to carry. State police at Greensburg are investigating an incident of identity theft that occurred at 6:52 p.m. Sept. 29 after a Hempfield Township woman was notified by her human resource department of a fraudulent unemployment claim opened in her name. Another incident of the same nature was reported by a 65-year-old man from Latrobe. According to police, the victim reported that someone was able to reroute his unemployment payouts to another address. Read more

State police at Greensburg reported that one person was injured following a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 2:54 p.m. Sept. 24, in Hempfield Township. According to police, a 2012 Toyota Corolla and 2005 Jeep Laredo crashed at the intersection of Old Airport and Mount Pleasant roads. Brianna Distefanis, 25, of North Huntingdon, the driver of the Toyota, was transported to Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital for treatment of a suspected minor injury. The other driver, Nathaniel Baker, 21, of Pittsburgh, was not injured. Read more

State police at Greensburg report that troopers investigated an incident of terroristic threats at 9:23 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, on Georges Station Road in Hempfield Township. According to police, two men were arguing over a parking spot, when the altercation escalated into both individuals displaying handguns. State police said that the two were separated at the scene and no injuries were sustained in the incident. Read more

State police at Indiana arrested Felix Garcia-Santiago, 42, of Homer City for possessing a small amount of marijuana at 9:32 p.m. Aug. 24 after he was discovered in a vehicle parked and blocking the flow of traffic on Route 110 in White Township, Indiana County. Read more

State police at Greensburg report that Tracey L. Fisher, 51, of Blairsville was flown by medical helicopter from a two-vehicle crash she was involved in Tuesday in Derry Township. According to the report, the accident took place at 11:15 a.m. at the intersection of Route 217 and Pizza Barn Road. Sean R. Ober, 24, of Latrobe was also involved in the crash, but was not hurt. It had been busy in Derry Township over the last week as state police report two other collisions a few miles away sent motorists to the hospital, including Adam Finch, 31, of Oneonta, New York, who was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital after a two-vehicle crash Monday morning on Pizza Barn Road, about two miles south of the intersection with Route 217. Police reported that the other driver, Sandra L. Smith, 64, of Latrobe also suffered minor injuries in the 6 a.m. crash. State police at Indiana jailed Kevin Thomas, 58, of Pittsburgh, on multiple charges, including suspicion of driving under the influence and charges related to a domestic disturbance, that allegedly occurred between him and his daughter on Aug. 10 in Burrell Township. According to police, Thomas fled the domestic disturbance and was found to be under the influence of alcohol when police pulled over his 2004 Toyota Corolla at 12:34 a.m. that evening. He was lodged in the Indiana County Jail in relation to charges filed stemming from the domestic disturbance. DUI charges are pending blood results. Read more

State police at Greensburg have arrested Kendrick Bolish, 33, of Latrobe after he fled the scene of an accident at 9:05 p.m. Aug. 15 on a ramp to Route 30 East in Hempfield Township. According to police, Bolish’s Chevrolet Silverado struck a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro, driven by Kristina Mitchell, 48, of Latrobe. After the alleged accident, Mitchell pursued Bolish and attempted to get him to pull over. He reportedly did pull over, getting off the Route 119 exit ramp and into the parking lot of NAPA Auto Parts Store. After a brief conversation, police claim Bolish got back in his truck and fled down Route 119. Mitchell didn’t pursue him because she got a picture of his license plate and contacted police. State police at Greensburg are investigating a hit and run crash that occurred at 12:32 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of Denny’s Restaurant in Hempfield Township. A 2012 Volkswagen Jetta, which was unoccupied and parked in a space, was struck by an unknown vehicle, which left the scene without providing proper information. Although the Jetta was operable, it did sustain visible damage to the front driver’s side fender. Read more

The state police at Indiana has released its monthly report. According to the report, there were a total of 1,802 incidents in July, including 357 criminal offenses reported (349 founded offenses), 106 criminal offenses cleared, resulting in 108 criminal arrests. In addition, activities reported included 66 crashes (4 hit and run accidents, 26 injured), 38 DUI arrests, seven DUI-related crashes and no fatalities. Police issued 707 traffic citations and 283 warnings, including 11 seat belt citations and one child safety citation. Troopers also assisted 26 motorists and conducted 39 motor vehicle inspections. State police at Greensburg report two juveniles have been charged with criminal mischief after they used a rock to damage the passenger side of a 2009 Ford truck at 11:49 a.m. July 5 at the Youngwood Community Park & Pool. State police identified the suspects after the community center provided video surveillance of the incident and informed them the two teenagers had been asked to leave the facility earlier in the day. State police at Greensburg report a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer was pulled over at 1:47 p.m. June 3, at the Heights Lane intersection with Lowry Avenue, Hempfield Township. The driver was found to be under the influence of controlled substances and the passenger was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. Neither were identified in the report. Read more

State police at Greensburg report one person was injured in a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 12:35 a.m. July 13, in Hempfield Township. According to the report, a 2012 Kia Sorento, driven by Kelly M. Fox Jr, 48, of Kittanning, and a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Jennifer A. Max in, 43, of North Huntingdon, collided in the left lane of Route 30 just east of BlackBerry Road. Kelly was cited after the accident with speeding. Kelly was transported by ambulance to Forbes Regional Hospital for a suspected minor injury, according to the report. Read more

State police at Greensburg report several items were stolen in a shoplifting incident that occurred at 6:09 p.m. May 22 in Hempfield Township. The items stolen were reported to be a pair of Xersion sunglasses valued at $60, a packet of Kinetic Sand, valued at $12.99, “What the Meme” game valued at $14.99, a color-changing light bulb, valued at $7.99 and a bikini bottom valued at $19.99. State police at Greensburg report troopers received a report that an iPhone was found at 1:06 a.m. Friday within the parking lot of CVS on East Pittsburgh Street in Hempfield Township. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 724-832-3288. Read more

State police at Kiski Valley report John Truxal, 47, of Latrobe was arrested after troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 2003 Ford Escape and found a small amount of cocaine and marijuana around 10:05 p.m. July 1 along Depot Street and Latrobe-Derry Road in Latrobe. Charges will be filed through the office of District Judge Mark Bilik. Read more

State police at Indiana report two catalytic converters were removed and stolen from a 36-year-old Bolivar man’s vehicle around 11:52 p.m. June 14 while it was parked for the weekend along Route 22 in Burrell Township. PSP Indiana is investigating. Read more

State police at Kiski Valley report troopers investigated a criminal mischief report in which a 72-year-old Latrobe man is accused of covering a vent pipe at a Latrobe Municipal Authority (LMA) pump station on Sunview Circle in Derry Township around 1:58 p.m. June 28. Police said the act caused the blower to overheat and malfunction. This investigation continues. Read more

The Laurel Highlands DUI Task Force will be conducting enforcement patrols from July 1 through July 5 as part of the Fourth of July enforcement period. These enforcement patrols will include a stationary sobriety checkpoint and roving patrols — all in Westmoreland County. Read more

State police at Indiana report troopers were dispatched around 8:16 p.m. June 22 to Route 22 in Burrell Township for a domestic violence call in which a 32-year-old Blairsville man allegedly struck a 34-year-old Blairsville woman in the face, causing an injury. The man was arrested and transported to Indiana County Jail to await arraignment. This investigation is ongoing. Read more

State police at Greensburg report Jesse R. Hornbeck, 33, of Hopwood was flown to UPMC Presbyterian for treatment of suspected serious injuries after he was involved in a motorcycle crash around 4:45 p.m. May 22 along Route 119 in Hempfield Township. Police said Hornbeck was traveling northbound behind two friends also on motorcycles when he passed them in the right lane. When he re-entered the left lane, he lost traction with his rear wheel, hit the center concrete barrier and fell off the motorcycle, sliding approximately 20 feet before coming to final rest. State police at Greensburg report George Staley, 52, of Greensburg was stopped for a traffic violation around 3:33 p.m. May 12 along South Main and Chestnut streets in Southwest Greensburg, and troopers discovered Staley’s driver’s license was DUI suspended. Further records revealed Staley had two prior convictions and one pending charge. Charges were later filed through the office of Magisterial District Justice Anthony Bompiani. Read more
