A Hempfield Township man was killed early Thursday in a one-vehicle crash, according to information released by the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office.
Mario C. Paulone, 23, was driving north on Middletown Road in Hempfield Township around 1:37 a.m. Thursday when the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer he was driving traveled off the east side of the road and struck multiple trees. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the coroner’s report, and Paulone was the only occupant of the vehicle.
Paulone was wearing a seatbelt, according to the coroner’s report, and was trapped inside the vehicle.
He was transported to the Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital Emergency Department, where he was pronounced dead at 3:21 a.m. by a hospital physician.
Paulone died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to the coroner’s report.
Cell phone use being a factor in the crash was unknown, and toxicology results will not be available for several weeks, according to the coroner’s report.
State police at Greensburg also investigated the crash, but had not released a report as of Thursday morning.
Kepple-Graft Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
