Fire crews rescue person, dog stuck on Unity Twp. hillside

Fire crews responded to an initial report of two people trapped on a hillside after a dog they were walking got loose in Unity Township about 9:30 a.m. Friday. No one was hurt, according to a Westmoreland County 911 dispatcher. In the lower photo, the dog and one person were rescued Friday. Fire crews from Lloydsville, Crabtree, Latrobe, Whitney-Hostetter and Youngstown responded to the scene. See story on Page A1.

Area firefighters rescued an individual Friday morning after the person was briefly stuck on a hillside in Unity Township, a Westmoreland County 911 dispatcher said.

The dispatcher reported that no one was hurt following the 9:30 a.m. incident.

Emergency crews were called to the Lawson Heights area of the township. Two people became trapped on a hillside behind Horseshoe Drive after a dog they were walking got loose, the dispatcher said.

The dispatcher said one person safely reached the top of the hill before firefighters arrived on scene, while the second person was later pulled to safety by fire crews. The dog also was rescued.

A rescue boat was sent to Loyalhanna Creek for assistance as a precautionary measure.
