Ash Wednesday marks start of Lent

Peg Mulcahy of Derry Township administers ashes to Latrobe City Councilman Gerald Baldonieri of Latrobe during evening Mass on Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, at Holy Family Parish in Latrobe. This year, Bishop-elect Larry J. Kulick, JCL, instructed parishes in the Diocese of Greensburg to sprinkle ashes on the heads of parishioners, rather than placing them on a person’s forehead, as a coronavirus (COVID-19) safety measure.
