Purple Heart Veteran Retired Lieutenant Colonel Leo Ciaramiaro with be at the Ligonier Valley Library from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 9. He will share his story and his Purple Heart Medal with families and children.

Families will learn about the history of the Purple Heart and will also listen to a story called Pepper’s Purple Heart. Afterwards, children will be creating their very own medal of honor after learning the significance behind such medals.

This program is free and best for ages 5 and older. Adults are welcome to attend.

Compass Inn Museum and Ligonier Valley Historical Society will conduct Harvest Candlelight Tours from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturdays, Nov. 9, 16 and 23 on the museum’s grounds in Laughlintown.

Experience the inn’s rustic charm while it is adorned with natural autumn accents, cheery glowing wood fires and the flickering of candles in every room.

At the end of the tour, relax by the warm crackling fire in the 1862 Room’s Rumsford fireplace with a cup of hot mulled cider and a cookie. Last tour begins at 6:30 p.m.

A Ski Swap will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 16, in Heritage United Methodist Church on the Diamond.

Drop off your gear with a name, asking price and any problems well marked from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in the church sanctuary. Have your equipment and clothing clean and in good condition.

The Weeders and Seeders Garden Club of Ligonier invites the public to a free program, “Nature in the News.” There will be informational, entertaining and uplifting videos of the wonders of nature, as well as simple tips and tricks for gardeners of all levels, from beginner to expert.

The program will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 19 in the Nimick Family Education Center, Old Lincoln Highway West, located on the Watershed Farm, Ligonier Township.

The public is also welcome to attend the business meeting at 6 p.m.

The Southwestern Pennsylvania Council for the Arts 24th Annual Juried Exhibition opens on Friday, Nov. 15, will run through Feb. 2 at Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art Ligonier, Route 711 South.

English country dance lessons will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 19 in Fort Ligonier’s Center for History Education.

Classes will be led by dance master Brett Walker. No experience or 18th century attire is required.

Registration is open for holiday decorating of the Diamond. This includes the Adopt-A-Lamppost project, providing individuals, organizations and businesses the opportunity to personalize a holiday message on a gift tag attached to a decorated lamppost.

Early registration is encouraged to ensure getting the lamppost of your choice; interested individuals are asked to register no later than Nov. 21. Cost is $25 and includes the gift tag with your personalized holiday greeting or a message in memory of a loved one.

Stop by the Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce office in Town Hall, Ligonier Borough, or call 724-238-4200 for more details. Proceeds from the project will be used to help fund holiday Chamber operations.

Boy Scout Troop 372 of Ligonier sold 115 dinners during the second offering of Calvary United Methodist Church’s famous spaghetti dinners.

Mike Sparks, committee chair, reported this was down compared to the 155 meals sold the first time in July.

The Scouts are planning to hold a spaghetti dinner in January.
