COVID-19 patient discharged from Excela Latrobe Hospital

A cheering Excela Health staff gave Mark Nicholas of North Huntingdon and his wife Karyl an emotional sendoff Wednesday afternoon. Mark spent more than seven weeks in the hospital battling COVID-19. Admitted to Excela Westmoreland Hospital in mid-March, Mark spent several weeks on a ventilator. Once his condition improved, he was transferred from Westmoreland's ICU to Excela Latrobe Hospital to gain strength and begin his rehabilitation. Feelling helpless to support her husband throughout this ordeal, Karyl started a GoFundMe campaign on behalf of Excela Health's frontline staff, which has raised more than $11,000 to date.
